Weekend fun

This weekend we met up with some college friends out at the Stockyards.
We had a good time, but we left pretty early. We are old and also couldn't handle the fact that they still allow smoking at bars in the Stockyards, so we were home before midnight.

The next day was a lazy Sunday. I met up with the girls for brunch at Taverna. Wow - the breakfast calzone was amazing!!
The weather was great so after naps the boys rode their bikes around and I pulled out my good camera.

Hot dates!

February was the month of dates for us. On the 8th, we went to a wedding without the babies.

Then on the 11th, we went to an event at Cowboys AT&T Stadium. The event was for lawyers all over the country. We were in the first group of the tour. When our locker room tours were done, we passed another group. Derek said he saw Ed Hochuli, so we decided to join their group. Sure enough - we snapped a shot with Ed Hochuli!

On the 12th, we celebrated Valentine's Day by going to dinner (again - without babies) at a Mexican food place we'd heard about in Grapevine. It's not new by any means, but it was new to us. Ummmmm wow. The brisket tacos will knock your socks off! Just as good as Mia's if you ask me and that's saying a lot. It's called Baja Grill. Go there. Hot sauce and 'ritas are good too, but skip the queso.

On Valentines, we went to Mattito's as a family of 4. The kids were pretty good!

The weather on the 15th was perfect. We had a morning trip to Costco, then packed up a picnic lunch and spent some time at the Duck Pond. In the evening, Derek and I went to the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. We had a special invitation that included cocktails, appetizers, and dinner before the show.

We ended the month with a weekend getaway to San Antonio and Austin. The kiddos spent time with Mimi and Papa. We all made it home just before March decided to laugh at us and throw some ice in our face. I blame you, Punxsatawney Phil.

Date Night

I'm a member in an organization that celebrated its 30th year. I'm not active in the organization, but when the event came up, I jumped at it. Free date night!!

The event was at the Frontiers of Flight Museum. We were there back in September 2009 on the same day we found out we would be parents. We celebrated Jesse & Rachel's wedding that night, complete with dancing Thriller!

But last night, there was open bar, food, an 80's band and Casino games! We met a couple who were involved with starting the first German immersion day care in DFW. So if you're looking for such a school, let me know!

There was also a "photo booth" - which was just a camera really. All in all, a good night that was (almost) free (had to pay for child care)!

Weekend update

Friday after work, Grant and I skinny dipped in the pool. Well - one of us anyway. The forecast called for cooler weather, so I wanted to make sure we got in some good pool time!

On Saturday we met up with Lorena for brunch. But we were early, so we POPPED in on Wild Bill. Bill was holding Abby and I said "You look so much like your dad." Everyone was confused since Abby is not a mini-me of Derek, but I was actually talking to Billy! 4 seconds later, Abby was basically leaping back into my arms... apparently so she could throw up on me.

We had a great time catching up with Lolo! I love that she always make time to see my family (even when she doesn't have much time). After brunch, I stayed home with napping babies and Derek went to pick up Kennedy.

Kennedy baby sat while we went to see Baby Daxon! He is precious! Then we had some time before meeting up for Erin's birthday dinner! So we pre-partied with Bill at Chill.
Erin's birthday dinner was perfect! I loved catching up with family. Unfortunately, while I was catching up, I was overserved. I may have had the most fun!

So Sunday, I figured "hair of the dog" and I joined my girlfriends at DISH for bottomless mimosas at our Second Sunday Brunch Bunch! Not that we haven't seen each other often, but I still felt like I had a lot to catch up on with them too!

Sunday evening we grilled chicken and I made some stuffed grilled bell peppers that were SO good! Something I'd never done before. So of course my excellent eater (Grant) ate nothing.

After dinner Grant entertained himself (and us) by putting on Derek's boots, walking around to show us, then taking them off and putting on Derek's flip flops. And on and on.
I decided to try to lay Abby down while she's still awake. I figure it's about time she put herself to bed. She didn't make a peep. I tried again tonight - same thing. My baby is getting so big! (I say that with a pout).

Out and about

I've been on the go this week. Sunday night, Anna and I went to see Guys and Dolls. I had never seen it, and I thought it was great. Before the show, we went to Chuy's. I had fajitas, simply because it is something I can NEVER order when we are out with Grant. A sizzling platter and 4 other plates to spread out?! No way.

Our next date at Dallas Summer Musicals is during the State Fair - West Side Story. I'm REALLY looking forward to that! Matt and Derek are joining us for that one too.

On Wednesday, Tammy called to ask if I wanted to go see Katy Perry with her the next day. My friend Nick choreographed the show, so I was excited to see his work! Katy Perry's show is - well - as cheesy as you may expect. The songs are tenuously tied together with this animated story of Katy Perry chasing her cat, Kitty Purry, in a very colorful dream world.

It turns out I knew more Katy Perry than I thought! I think by the end of the night, I was up to 5 or 6 songs, when I originally thought it was just 3 songs. With the fire on stage, can you guess what song this was?! If you can't, you know even LESS Katy Perry than I do.

Saturday night was Parents' Night Out at daycare. Grant got to see his favorite teacher, Ms. Maribel, and Derek and I went with 2 other parents to Jasper's in Plano. We'd had a gift card for a LONG time. Review: Very good! The gift card did make the steak taste better. I'd like to go again when I can have more than a sip or 2 of wine.
